The authors revisit existing theories of nuclear magnetism and show that, in n-doped semiconductors with a positive hyperfine constant, two kinds of nuclear magnetic ordering can be expected. At a positive nuclear spin temperature below a critical value, randomly oriented nuclear spin polarons should emerge, and within each polaron nuclear and electron spins are aligned antiferromagnetically. At a negative nuclear spin temperature below a critical value, an unusual ferromagnetic state is formed, which is maintained by dynamic spin transfer between electron and nuclear spin systems.

Rare-earth triangular-lattice materials naturally combine the effects of geometric frustration and strong spin-orbit coupling, providing an ideal platform for the search of novel phases. Here, the authors report a combination of insights from the low-temperature specific heat data and theoretical modeling that provide a near-precise identification of the CeCd3As3 magnetic ground state and a remarkable level of certainty regarding the part of the phase diagram where it belongs, paving the way to a deeper understanding of a broad class of materials.
