The ferrimagnetic spinel FeCr2S4 reveals fascinating properties, such as colossal magnetoresistance, half-metallicity, dynamic and static Jahn-Teller effects, strong magnetocrystalline anisotropy, topological Hall effect, multiferroicity, and unconventional magnetostructural transformations. In contrast to well characterized magnetic phases, the crystal structure in the different magnetic and orbitally ordered phases has remained an enigma over the years. Here, using high-resolution synchrotron diffraction, the authors resolve the long sought-after cubic to tetragonal transition at 65 K, reducing the lattice symmetry to I41amd with further lowering likely to I41md in the multiferroic state established below 9 K.

Phys. Rev. B 105, 174513 (2022) - Published 19 May, 2022

Experimentally, the superconducting Tc of simple cubic phosphorus displays a nontrivial pressure dependence that has been lacking a theoretical explanation. This work demonstrates how state-of-the-art many-body methods can be combined with the density functional theory for superconductors formalism to arrive at estimates of Tc in the experimentally relevant range. By extending the framework to take into account correlations not only through the screened electron-electron interaction, but also through renormalized quasiparticle bands, the authors find indications for a more robust prediction of the pressure-Tc curve.

Phys. Rev. B 105, 195423 (2022) - Published 19 May, 2022

One-dimensional quantum systems can host particles with peculiar exchange statistics. Here, the authors elucidate conditions for when such statistics can be connected to the sign of the recently discovered delta-T noise: charge tunneling noise as a response to only a temperature gradient. This work thereby demonstrates the potential for using delta-T noise as a probe of exotic particles in, e.g., fractional quantum Hall and quantum spin Hall tunneling experiments.
