Beyond characteristic equations: A unified one-dimensional non-Bloch band theory via wavefunction data

Haoshu Li

Phys. Rev. Research 7, L042004 (2025) - Published 2 October, 2025

This study shows that the characteristic equation alone can be insufficient for determining open-boundary spectra in non-Hermitian systems and introduces a unified framework that incorporates wavefunction data to accurately capture spectral and response properties, particularly in high-symmetry settings.

Quantum Zeno blockade in optomechanical systems

Karl Pelka and André Xuereb

Phys. Rev. Research 7, L042003 (2025) - Published 2 October, 2025

Using a simple yet experimentally feasible driving scheme it is shown how continuous variable quantum systems can be forced to act as qudits through the quantum Zeno effect. Moreover, the dimensionality of the qubit can be tuned through external drive parameters with parameters available in optomechanical experiments.

A robust treatment of finite nuclear size effects in the analysis of the 26mAl → 26Mg decay is shown to reduce the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity deficit by one standard deviation.

Analytical expression for fracture profile in viscoelastic crack propagation

Hokuto Nagatakiya, Naoyuki Sakumichi, Shunsuke Kobayashi, and Ryuichi Tarumi

Phys. Rev. Research 7, L042001 (2025) - Published 1 October, 2025

An analytical expression for the strain field during steady-state crack propagation in viscoelastic solids reveals three distinct power-law regions in the fracture profile, explaining the experimentally observed velocity-dependent crack-tip sharpening in rubbers and gels. This work establishes the de Gennes’ viscoelastic trumpet on continuum mechanics, bridging scaling arguments with traditional fracture mechanics.
