A demonstration of how Rydberg atoms can be used as sensitive, minimally perturbative probes for high-resolution spatial mapping of the electric field produced by an electron beam. This method enables determination of the beam’s width, central position, and current in a single measurement.

An inverse-design-inspired dielectric nanocavity confines electromagnetic fields on length scales previously known from plasmonic cavities but now without the associated ohmic absorption losses. The resulting deep subwavelength fields enable strong interactions with excitons in monolayer tungsten ditelluride, opening a pathway toward quantum nonlinearities at the single-photon level.

Low temperature magnetization, ac susceptibility, and neutron scattering measurements are used to investigate the magnetic properties and excitations of the Kitaev candidate material BaCo2(AsO4)2. The results highlight an ill-ordered collinear magnetic ground state with chainlike defects. Monte Carlo and linear spin wave simulations enable the determination of a spin model including bond-dependent Kitaev-like interactions, compatible with this magnetic order, the excitation dispersion, and the field-induced magnetization plateau.
