Enhanced discrimination of high-dimensional quantum subchannels via optimal local filtering, guided by semidefinite programming, is demonstrated in a one-sided device-independent photonic experiment. The method is theoretically capable of achieving a perfect success probability.

Ubiquitous mechanism of creep-quake cycles in porous media

Leonardo A. Crespo Parraga, Itai Einav, and François Guillard

Phys. Rev. Research 7, L032034 (2025) - Published 13 August, 2025

Ever wondered what breakfast cereals, salt, sand, and ice may have in common? Under the right conditions, they can all undergo creep-quake cycles—recurring sudden collapses following slow buildups. Through hands-on experiments and a simple theoretical model, this work explains the shared physics of this behavior across diverse porous materials.

Optical response of the supersolid polaron

Laurent H. A. Simons, Ralf Klemt, Tilman Pfau, Michiel Wouters, and Jacques Tempere

Phys. Rev. Research 7, L032033 (2025) - Published 13 August, 2025

This article studies the optical response of an impurity embedded in a dipolar supersolid. The authors observe several distinct features and postulate that these can be used as signatures of supersolid excitations.

Phys. Rev. Research 7, L032032 (2025) - Published 12 August, 2025

This work determines theoretically what information can be extracted from current-density correlations of many-body states formed in Landau levels or in vortexable Aharonov-Casher bands. It shows that measurements of such correlations can reveal the system’s interaction energy, offering a new probe of many-body structure in quantum simulators.
