Phys. Rev. Research 8, L032013 (2026) - Published 22 July, 2026

For attributing a free-propagating heralded single quantum, several light characteristics such as the number of the emitted modes, mean photon number, and photon-number parity are needed. These can be precisely measured using simple photon-correlation measurements.

Asymptotically exact solution of the non-Hermitian disordered interacting Hatano-Nelson chain

Phys. Rev. Research 8, L032012 (2026) - Published 22 July, 2026

This article presents an exact low-energy solution of a one-dimensional model of interacting disordered spinless fermions with non-Hermitian hopping, equivalently formulated as a non-Hermitian spin-1/2 chain. The solution exhibits finite-temperature divergent spin susceptibilities and shows that non-Hermiticity suppresses the entanglement entropy relative to the corresponding Hermitian model, eliminating the associated entanglement scaling.

An individual spin-1/2 realized by a nitrogen-vacancy center in diamond is shown to exhibit subharmonic responses under strong monochromatic driving. Theoretical modeling of the driven nitrogen-vacancy dynamics and stroboscopic photoluminescence measurements identify period doubling, tripling, quadrupling, and quintupling.

Rheology of dense vibrated granular flows: Nonmonotonic response controlled by granular temperature

Phys. Rev. Research 8, L032010 (2026) - Published 21 July, 2026

When subjected to vibrations, the effective viscosity of a granular medium depends heavily on both confining pressure and vibration parameters. In this work, experimentally calibrated discrete element simulations of a vane rheometer are used to provide a unified framework that reconciles experimental observations. The results show that confining pressure directly dictates the rheological response, while vibration effects are mediated by the granular temperature, which results from a balance between energy input and internal dissipation.
