E. J. Halperin, M. W. C. Sze, J. P. Corson, and J. L. Bohn

Phys. Rev. A 100, 013608 (2019) - Published 11 July, 2019

A protocol to prepare a strongly interacting Bose gas in a regime where both adiabatic ramp and direct quench are ineffective is proposed. The used phase-matching approach should lead to nearly unit population transfer to the strongly interacting ground state of a rubidium condensate, enabling investigations beyond the mean-field corrections to the Gross-Pitaevskii equation.

Ilias M. H. Seifie, Vijay Pal Singh, and L. Mathey

Phys. Rev. A 100, 013602 (2019) - Published 1 July, 2019

The coherent-state formulation of Feynman path integrals is generalized by using squeezed states, leading to a model that incorporates higher-order correlations of the system. The power of the approach is demonstrated by deriving the second sound modes of a weakly interacting condensate of ultracold atoms.

Volker Karle, Nicolò Defenu, and Tilman Enss

Phys. Rev. A 99, 063627 (2019) - Published 28 June, 2019

The superfluidity properties of a two-component bosonic mixture with short-range repulsive interactions are investigated. The results suggest that the presence of different topological excitations can lead to coupled superfluidity in both components, with both critical temperatures locked to a unique value.

João Fernando Doriguello and Ashley Montanaro

Phys. Rev. A 99, 062331 (2019) - Published 24 June, 2019

Comparing data is ubiquitous in communication, and quantum protocols like quantum fingerprinting provide an exponential advantage in the complexity of equality testing. In this work, a quantum protocol for approximately computing another comparison measure, the Hamming distance, up to low relative error, is developed.

Fattah Sakuldee and Łukasz Cywiński

Phys. Rev. A 99, 062113 (2019) - Published 20 June, 2019

The problem of gaining information about a qubit’s environment by a sequence of single-shot projective measurements applied to the qubit is analyzed in detail. The theory is applied to the case of NV centers, and it is found that recent results from the literature can be explained by classical concepts.

S. Pegahan, J. Kangara, I. Arakelyan, and J. E. Thomas

Phys. Rev. A 99, 063620 (2019) - Published 20 June, 2019

The time evolution of spin-energy correlations in a very weakly interacting Fermi gas of 6Li produces complex spin-density profiles, which are observed and quantitatively explained by a one-dimensional mean-field model. This system exhibits rich collective dynamics for exploring the interplay between spin, motion, Fermi statistics, and interactions in many-body systems.

Phys. Rev. A 99, 053614 (2019) - Published 22 May, 2019

A one-dimensional Fermi-Hubbard-Harper model for interacting fermions in a one-dimensional lattice is thoroughly investigated. By using density-matrix renormalization-group techniques, a grand-canonical phase diagram is constructed and various types of phases are identified and explored. Topological phase transitions are studied and are predicted to leave clear fingerprints in charge-pump experiments.

Phys. Rev. A 99, 053818 (2019) - Published 14 May, 2019

Atom-atom interactions in a Bose-Einstein condensate can be engineered by employing the multimode structure of optical cavities. Deuteron charge radius from the Lamb-shift measurement in muonic deuterium

Marcin Kalinowski

Phys. Rev. A 99, 030501(R) (2019) - Published 21 March, 2019

A discrepancy in the determination of the deuteron charge radius is solved by taking into account the modification of nuclear-structure effects by the electron vacuum polarization. The result indicates that the muonic measurements of the nuclear charge radii are correct and the discrepancy in the proton charge radius comes exclusively from an underestimated uncertainty in ordinary hydrogen spectroscopy.

Bidirectional universal dynamics in a spinor Bose gas close to a nonthermal fixed point

Christian-Marcel Schmied, Maximilian Prüfer, Markus K. Oberthaler, and Thomas Gasenzer

Phys. Rev. A 99, 033611 (2019) - Published 18 March, 2019

The universal scaling of macroscopic observables tells us about the loss of information on initial conditions and microscopic system properties. By studying the time evolution of an isolated spinor Bose gas after a sudden quench into a magnetically ordered phase, it is numerically shown that universal scaling evolution at a nonthermal fixed point is possible in a purely one-dimensional geometry.
