Phys. Rev. Research 5, L022062 (2023) - Published 22 June, 2023

The coexistence of local and topological order, known as magnetic fragmentation, is observed in a bilayer Kitaev-type spin-orbital model. One of the low-energy excitations in this phase is shown to be a fractionalized Goldstone boson.

Spontaneous flow instabilities of active polar fluids in three dimensions

Abhinav Singh, Quentin Vagne, Frank Jülicher, and Ivo F. Sbalzarini

Phys. Rev. Research 5, L022061 (2023) - Published 22 June, 2023

The hydrodynamics of active polar or nematic fluids in three dimensions exhibit a spontaneous flow transition, where the boundary conditions select the type of instability. Both in-plane and out-of-plane patterns can emerge, governed by the sign of the active stress.

We investigate the degree of energy-time entanglement in a dressed quantum-dot three-level system via Franson interferometry. Our work demonstrates a maximum visibility of (73 ± 2)%, surpassing the limit of violation of Bell’s inequality.

Hubble constant in the axi-Higgs universe

Phys. Rev. Research 5, L022059 (2023) - Published 22 June, 2023

The cosmic evolution of electron mass has been driven by an ultralight axion field in the axi-Higgs model, which leads to an earlier hydrogen recombination and finally relaxes the Hubble tension.

Effects of orbital selective dynamical correlation on the spin susceptibility and superconducting symmetries in Sr2RuO4

Chang-Youn Moon

Phys. Rev. Research 5, L022058 (2023) - Published 21 June, 2023

The two-particle vertex function contains all scattering processes from the electron-hole interaction and is a key component in evaluating susceptibilities. A study demonstrates how its orbital-selective, dynamic nature determines the peak structure of the spin susceptibility in the momentum space for Hund’s metallic Sr2RuO4 within the DFT + DMFT framework, which in turn leads to specific superconducting gap symmetries.

Bounded-confidence model of opinion dynamics with heterogeneous node-activity levels

Grace J. Li and Mason A. Porter

Phys. Rev. Research 5, 023179 (2023) - Published 21 June, 2023

A bounded-confidence model of opinion dynamics on networks with node weights, which encode heterogeneous activity levels, is studied. The presence of heterogeneous node weights increases both opinion fragmentation and convergence times to steady state.
