Maximal violation of Kirchhoff's law in planar heterostructures

Lu Wang (汪璐), F. Javier García de Abajo, and Georgia T. Papadakis

Phys. Rev. Research 5, L022051 (2023) - Published 7 June, 2023

The ultimate energy-harvesting efficiency (93%) is made possible by violating Kirchhoff’s law of radiation. Using a planar nonreciprocal structure, a complete violation of Kirchhoff’s law can be achieved. In addition, this planer structure does not require any coupling beyond the light cone.

Braids are ubiquitous in mathematics and physics. The interesting multistrand braiding topology is visualized by a concise acoustic setup. From the measurements of both eigenvalues and eigenstates, a noncommutative braid relation and a swappable braid relation is precisely captured.

Kagome chiral spin liquid in transition metal dichalcogenide moiré bilayers

Johannes Motruk, Dario Rossi, Dmitry A. Abanin, and Louk Rademaker

Phys. Rev. Research 5, L022049 (2023) - Published 5 June, 2023

An experimental realization of the Heisenberg model on the kagome lattice is proposed in highly tunable moiré bilayers of transition metal dichalcogenides. It is demonstrated that the system can host a topologically ordered chiral spin liquid and the much-studied kagome spin liquid for realistic material parameters.

Phys. Rev. Research 5, L022048 (2023) - Published 5 June, 2023

High-temperature magnetism of kinetic origin emerges when the Fermi-Hubbard model is doped away from half-filling. Magnetic susceptibility measurements and analysis of charge-spin-spin correlators demonstrate the emergence of magnetic correlations as the system is cooled down.

Phys. Rev. Research 5, L022047 (2023) - Published 5 June, 2023

The fluctuation-induced dynamo effect, resulting from the correlation between electron pressure fluctuation and radial magnetic fluctuation in the core, is measured by an electron cyclotron radiometer and Faraday-effect polarimetry in the high-temperature tokamak plasmas. The measured dynamo acts to flatten parallel current in the core of a magnetic confinement fusion device.

Topological phase diagrams of exactly solvable non-Hermitian interacting Kitaev chains

Sharareh Sayyad and Jose L. Lado

Phys. Rev. Research 5, L022046 (2023) - Published 2 June, 2023

The interacting phase diagram of a non-Hermitian one-dimensional model featuring topologically different phases is demonstrated. Furthermore, the exact solution in the integrable regime, which has been extended to the nonintegrable regime by employing exact diagonalization and matrix product state methods, is presented. The present results are expected to pave a new pathway toward characterizing non-Hermitian topology in realistic interacting quantum many-body systems.

Magnetic ground state of the Kitaev Na2Co2TeO6 spin liquid candidate

Phys. Rev. Research 5, L022045 (2023) - Published 2 June, 2023

Neutron diffraction on a candidate Kitaev material, Na2Co2TeO6, suggests that the system’s zero-field magnetic ground state features a “triple-𝐪” order that preserves the crystallographic threefold rotational symmetry. The order can be suppressed by in-plane magnetic fields above about 10 tesla.

Phys. Rev. Research 5, L022044 (2023) - Published 31 May, 2023

An experimental result for the polarizability of 40Ca is presented. Together with a previous study of 48Ca, it serves as a test of theoretical approaches based on coupled-cluster calculations with interactions derived from chiral effective field theory and on energy density functional theory, thereby providing constraints on the equation of state of neutron-rich matter.
