Negative hybridization: A potential cure for braiding with imperfect Majorana modes

Cole Peeters, Themba Hodge, and Stephan Rachel

Phys. Rev. Research 8, L032032 (2026) - Published 27 August, 2026

The degeneracy breaking hybridization between Majorana zero modes leads to unwanted dynamic phase accumulation and thus introduces error to topological quantum gates. In certain regimes, the effects of hybridization can be cancelled by the inclusion of an equal amount of “negative hybridization” that has been demonstrated via simulation to drastically reduce dynamic errors in Z, X, and ᴄɴᴏᴛ gates.

Atmospheric transfer of kinetic energy across planetary-scale circulation and weather

Phys. Rev. Research 8, 033239 (2026) - Published 27 August, 2026

Earth’s Hadley, Ferrel, and polar cells resemble the planet’s lungs, with storms, fronts, and eddies analogous to alveoli embedded within them. Using coarse graining as a form of atmospheric “spirometry”, this work maps kinetic-energy exchange between planetary-scale circulation and weather-scale motions, showing alternating geographic bands of upscale and downscale transfer driven by the planetary-scale cells’ convergence and divergence in the troposphere.

From evolutionarily stable states to eco-evolutionary metastability in evolutionary games with internal mixed equilibrium

Krzysztof Argasiński, Jacek Miękisz, and Andrew Morozov

Phys. Rev. Research 8, L032031 (2026) - Published 26 August, 2026

The importance of nonasymptotic metastable states in continuous deterministic evolutionary game models is highlighted. In the demographic version of the Hawk-Dove game, which is a paradigmatic model of the evolution of aggressive behavior, it is shown that metastates, known as ghost attractors, provide a temporal rescue from the eventual evolutionary suicide and extinction.

Forecasting quantum observables: A compressed sensing approach with performance guarantees

Víctor Valls, Albert Akhriev, Olatz Sanz Larrarte, Javier Oliva del Moral, Štěpán Šmíd, Josu Etxezarreta Martinez, Sergiy Zhuk, and Dmytro Mishagli
