Cluster-Decorated Lieb Lattice: A Convenient and Reliable Platform for Tuning Flat-Band Energy

20 October, 2026

Scanning tunneling microscope topographic image of a cluster-decorated Lieb lattice constructed with 57 Fe adatoms on a Ag(111) surface. Selected for a Synopsis in Physics Magazine and for an Editors’ Suggestion.

Light from Disordered Media

28 October, 2026

Researchers have proposed that structural disorder can be harnessed to generate coherent, directional light from the passage of a charged particle.

Competition for shared resources implements compositional proofreading associated with a nonequilibrium phase transition, such that below a critical flux, competition pins the system to the marginal stability of the most persistent species, concentrating the population into that species, and above this threshold, pinning fails and selectivity is lost.

By merging the wavelength-independent geometry of reflection with the momentum control of a periodic lattice, a deep binary grating efficiently routes multiple distinct wavelengths into a single diffraction angle.

A Quantum Cyclotron for Antimatter

21 October, 2026

A device that stores a single positron and controls its quantum states could measure its magnetic moment with unprecedented precision, testing a symmetry principle central to quantum field theory.

Putting Momentum Under the Microscope

21 October, 2026

A new method lets quantum gas microscopes measure not only where atoms are but also how they move.

20 October, 2026

An impurity in a Bose-Einstein condensate with time-tunable coupling realizes an Unruh-DeWitt detector of the condensate’s effective relativistic phonon field.

Tuning Flat Bands

20 October, 2026

Flat bands harbor exotic electron physics. A new way of realizing them could make the physics more accessible.

APS Early Career Astro Prize

In 2026, a new prize was introduced to celebrate the contributions of early-career researchers to the Physical Review journals within the Astronomy and Astrophysics Topical Group, such as Physical Review Letters. Eligible candidates are early-career authors (PhD students and post-docs), and nominations should be submitted via email to astro@aps.org. The award includes a $2,000 cash prize, a certificate, an invitation to attend the APS Global Physics Summit in Atlanta, and the opportunity to present at Physical Review’s astro session at the GPS.

Please see the Announcement here for more details.
