As collider experiments continue to increase bounds on the scale of potential new physics, the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) has proven a useful model-independent organizing principle. The authors revisit a basic observable in collider physics, a massive resonance’s lineshape, and incorporate general momentum dependence into its decay width. Especially for the top quark, deviations of the momentum-dependent width from Standard Model expectation can be sensitive to operators in SMEFT and potentially enhance the ability to discover new physics at future colliders.
