The authors demonstrate a prototype of an electrically injected, circularly polarized near-infrared laser based on a specifically engineered chiral microcavity. Importantly, the high degree of polarization of the emitted coherent beam is determined by the chirality of the imprinted structure, which is based on an optical cavity with a gradually doped GaAs/AlAs distributed Bragg reflector. A two-step lithographic process was used to fabricate the chiral structures, in combination with electrical injectors. This device represents a key step toward utilizing chiral microcavities in real-world applications.

Designing the propagation of single quanta at subwavelength scale is of major interest for integrated optical quantum information transfer. This study demonstrates the high potential of crystalline silicon wires with nanometric sections as low-loss nanochannels for quantum nanophotonics. Single photons from N-V centers in nanodiamonds can be guided and spectrally filtered over several micrometers while conserving their quantum statistics. Moreover, these nanowaveguides can be designed so that only light from emitters of specific orientations is efficiently guided, enabling quantum state selectivity and modal control of single-photon transfer in subwavelength waveguides.

Microwave circulators are usually treated as auxiliary, classical components in superconducting quantum computing. This study integrates the cavity-magnon polariton modes of a custom-built circulator with superconducting microwave cavities to implement a tunable nonreciprocal interaction. The apparatus is well described by a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian, yielding a theoretical framework to model other nonreciprocally coupled circuit elements on the same platform in the future. The experiment also showcases an experimental probe of the left and right eigenvectors associated with the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian.
