PRX Quantum is looking for a part-time Associate Editor with international scientific standing in the broad area of quantum information science and technologies. As a member of our editorial team, you would actively engage with the quantum community and ensure an excellent peer review experience and thoughtful selection of papers.
The journal publishes results of outstanding and lasting impact in a rapidly changing field. We count on top-notch and committed Editorial Board members, covering vast expertises and backgrounds, who are in close contact with the editors. Within the topical area of the journal, PRX Quantum welcomes research in physics, computer science and engineering.
The primary responsibility of the Associate Editor is to critically conduct the peer review process of assigned manuscripts by determining whether to send a manuscript out for external review, choosing appropriate reviewers, and making decisions on rejection or acceptance. The Associate Editor is expected to expand the existing ties between the journal and the vibrant quantum community, and to raise the journal’s overall visibility.
We receive submissions continuously throughout the year, and so we expect editors to work on their assignments on a regular basis; arrangements can usually be made for extended absences upon timely prior notice. Workload may vary depending on subject area and fluctuations in submissions, but it is typically no more than about 20 hours per month. Active participation in our regular editorial discussions is desirable. The Associate Editor would be appointed as a consultant and would receive compensation for their work on an hourly basis.
The part-time Associate Editor is welcomed to maintain their current position–be it in academia, industry, or others, while contributing to PRX Quantum. Candidates must have an outstanding track record in both research and in refereeing, and have a broad knowledge about the field and current trends. They should also hold high standards for peer review, and be committed to building an exceptional reputation for the journal. Researchers from anywhere in the world can apply.
Interested applicants should write to edsearch@aps.org with a cover letter, a current CV, and either a one-page summary or a short video clip outlining the applicant’s philosophy regarding peer review, and their views on the aims and future direction of PRX Quantum as they see it. The deadline to apply is March 31st, 2022.
