    Abstract

We perform a linear stability analysis to investigate the double diffusive convection stability of a density-stratified fluid contained in an inclined slot subjected to a lateral temperature gradient. The inclination angle (θ) changes from −80° to 80∘ relative to the vertical. The results reveal an asymmetrical behavior in stability with respect to θ=0∘. The base flow is less stable when heating is applied to the upper wall (negative θ) compared to heating the lower wall (positive θ). For small solute gradients, there is a critical inclination angle, θ=65.8∘, at which the thermal gradient required to initiate instability undergoes a steep decline. At intermediate solute gradients, the thermal and solute gradients compete to dominate stability, leading to multiple transitions at which different instability modes emerge and replace one another. For large solute gradients, the critical thermal and solute gradients increase simultaneously following a relationship that approaches an asymptotic limit, which is hardly influenced by inclination angle.
