We solve exactly the dynamics of inflation for a complex scalar field coupled conformally to gravity, rolling down from the local maximum at the origin of its Brout-Englert-Higgs-type potential energy. The spectral index and scalar-tensor ratio are computed, and it is shown that the values obtained do not depend on the precise initial conditions. Our predictions are in agreement with the most precise observations if the vacuum expectation value of the field is just below the scale of gravity.
