Quantum many-fermion systems give rise to diverse states of matter that often reveal themselves in distinctive transport properties. Here, the authors demonstrate that quantum loop topography can be used to probe efficiently and directly challenging transport properties by machine learning imaginary-time current-current correlations in quantum Monte Carlo simulations. Applications on the emergence of superconducting fluctuations in the negative-U Hubbard model and a spin-fermion model for a metallic quantum critical point detect changes in transport in good agreement with their established phase diagrams.

Phys. Rev. B 99, 165151 (2019) - Published 30 April, 2019

The authors show that critical opalescence - enhanced density fluctuations at all length scales - occurs in quantum matter, specifically in a doped Mott-insulating system that can be realized with ultracold atoms in optical lattices. These findings provide a theoretical framework and new predictions for ultracold-atom experiments. Looking for critical opalescence across the doping-driven Mott transition in ultracold systems may give insights on the origin of the pseudogap in cuprate high-temperature superconductors.
