Here, the authors report on the observation of edge electric currents excited in bilayer graphene by terahertz laser radiation. The photocurrent’s sign and direction are controlled by the radiation polarization state. In the presence of a magnetic field B, the photocurrent exhibits 1/B-periodic oscillations. The theory developed here shows that the photocurrent is formed in the vicinity of the edge and originates from the alignment of the free charge carrier momenta with dynamic accumulation of charge at the edges where the P symmetry is broken.

Phys. Rev. B 102, 024503 (2020) - Published 2 July, 2020

Here, the authors present the first direct, self-consistent solutions of the anisotropic Eliashberg equations for phonon-mediated superconductivity throughout the whole electron energy bandwidth that fully include the first vertex corrections to the electron self-energy. Their work elucidates aspects of superconductivity beyond Migdal’s theorem, such as the role of spatial dimensionality, and critically assesses previously employed approximations and variations of Eliashberg theory. It paves the way for understanding many superconductors of current interest, wherein the phononic and electronic energies are comparable, such as the high-Tc hydrides, FeSe/SrTiO3, and flat-band systems.

In metallic films, disorder localizes the electronic wave functions. A consequence is that electronic screening often diminishes. In this situation, a characteristic signature develops in the electronic density of states: a large depletion appears at the Fermi level, an effect predicted by Altshuler and Aronov. Here, the authors show that this depletion presents nanoscale spatial variations in NbN thin films that are spatially strongly correlated to the local superconducting energy gap. This provides a direct link between local Coulombic effects and local superconducting properties.
