In the composite fermions (CF) framework, at filling factor = 3/2 each carrier pairs up with two flux quanta to form quasi particles. The flux attachment cancels the external field, leaving the CFs as if they are at zero field — they occupy a Fermi sea with a well-defined Fermi contour. To examine this contour and its anisotropy induced by in-plane magnetic field, the authors apply the method of periodic grating of Hall bar samples, previously used by them in studies of CF near the filling factor 1/2. It is found that CF spin polarization increases with increasing quantum well width and electron density, and that in-plane magnetic field induces a larger CF Fermi contour anisotropy near filling factor 3/2 than near 1/2.

The dual boson method provides a systemic way to do diagrammatic expansion on top of extended dynamical mean-field theory (EDMFT) and can be very useful for the computational research on many strongly correlated systems. The authors present the first application of the method and give a very detail description for both its analytical basis and its numeral realization.
