Electric field driven domain wall dynamics in BaTiO3 nanoparticles

Jialun Liu, David Yang, Ana F. Suzana, Steven J. Leake, and Ian K. Robinson

Phys. Rev. B 111, 054101 (2025) - Published 3 February, 2025

Why do nanomaterials outperform bulk materials? This study reveals how nearly strainfree surfaces in BaTiO₃ nanoparticles enhance domain-wall mobility, driving superior dielectric performance. Using Bragg coherent diffraction imaging, the authors uncover electric field driven domain-wall dynamics. They validate a “side-by-side” domain model and identify a critical threshold of 3 MV/m for irreversible changes. These findings transform our understanding of nanoscale dielectric behavior and pave the path for breakthroughs in nanoelectronics.

Field theory of non-Hermitian disordered systems

Ze Chen, Kohei Kawabata, Anish Kulkarni, and Shinsei Ryu

Phys. Rev. B 111, 054203 (2025) - Published 7 February, 2025

The interplay between non-Hermiticity and disorder gives rise to unique universality classes of phase transitions and critical phenomena. Here, the authors develop effective field theory of non-Hermitian disordered systems and classify the universality classes across all the symmetry classes of non-Hermitian systems. The authors demonstrate that the phase transition characteristic of nonreciprocal disordered systems originates from the competition between kinetic and topological terms from the field-theoretical perspective.

In-plane Hall effect in Co3Sn2S2

Phys. Rev. B 111, 054412 (2025) - Published 7 February, 2025

The Hall effect driven by in-plane magnetic field or magnetization has recently attracted widespread interest. Various mechanisms, most of which are related to the Berry curvature, have been proposed to explain this unusual phenomenon. Here, the authors report an in-plane Hall effect dominated by the Lorentz force in the magnetic Weyl semimetal Co3Sn2S2. The study provides insights into the conductivity anisotropy of individual Fermi pockets in multiband systems and broadens the exploration of the in-plane Hall effect to a wider range of materials.

Large topological Hall effect induced by a field-driven metamagnetic transition in a centrosymmetric antiferromagnetic EuCuSb single crystal

Jing Wang, Yibo Wang, Xiaoyu Wang, Jianlei Shen, Enke Liu, and Xiaohong Xu

Phys. Rev. B 111, 054428 (2025) - Published 18 February, 2025

This study reports the observation of a significant topological Hall effect in centrosymmetric antiferromagnetic EuCuSb single crystals, revealing the potential formation of an unknown topological magnetic structure following a first-order-like metamagnetic transition. This discovery not only provides a new platform for investigating the formation mechanisms of topological magnetic structures in centrosymmetric antiferromagnetic systems, but also offers crucial insights into the intricate coupling between topological spin textures and conduction electrons, potentially advancing the field of topological spintronics.

Harmonic Hall characterization of voltage-controlled magnetic anisotropy at ferromagnet/oxide interfaces

M. Fettizio and C. O. Avci

Phys. Rev. B 111, 054438 (2025) - Published 26 February, 2025

Voltage control of magnetic anisotropy (VCMA) has emerged as an effective solution to reduce power consumption in magnetic memories. This work presents an alternative method to detect and quantify VCMA at a ferromagnet/oxide interface using harmonic Hall voltage detection. An AC voltage is applied simultaneously across the Hall bar and oxide gate using the same source while measuring first and second harmonic Hall voltage responses. This approach also enables measurement of voltage-induced changes in anomalous Hall resistance, interpreted using a spin-dependent screening model.

Field-orientation-dependent magnetic phases in GdRu2Si2 probed with muon-spin spectroscopy

Phys. Rev. B 111, 054440 (2025) - Published 27 February, 2025

Centrosymmetric GdRu2Si2 exhibits a variety of multi-Q magnetic states as a function of temperature and applied magnetic field, including a square skyrmion lattice phase, with different phase diagrams resulting for fields applied parallel or perpendicular to the crystallographic c axis. These are revealed using muon spin relaxation (μ+SR) measurements on single crystals of this compound, aided by calculations of the dipolar field at the muon sites determined by density functional theory.

Induced ferroelectricity and enhanced superconductivity through B-site doped SrTi1−xZrxO3

Stephen Zhang, Xianghan Xu, and R. J. Cava

Phys. Rev. B 111, 054522 (2025) - Published 26 February, 2025

Quantum criticality has long been linked to enhanced superconductivity in SrTiO3, with fluctuations near a quantum phase transition potentially aiding Cooper pairing. In this study, the authors explore this connection by introducing ferroelectricity into SrTiO3 via slight Zr substitution. A small amount of Zr induces a ferroelectric transition, and electron doping reveals enhanced superconducting Tc. Interestingly, excessive ferroelectric substitution weakens pairing, forming a superconducting dome. These findings suggest a possible role of quantum fluctuations in superconductivity within quantum paraelectrics.
