Abstract

High-spin nuclear qudits have emerged as promising donor resources for implementing quantum information processing tasks in silicon, owing to their high-dimensional Hilbert space, readily accessible electric driving, and potential for error-correctable logical qubits. However, coupling multiple high-spin nuclear spins remains challenging due to the short-range nature of direct nuclear-nuclear interactions. In this work, we propose a tunable coupling scheme that, unlike methods relying on weak and short-range direct nuclear-nuclear interactions, leverages the exchange interactions between neighboring electron spins as a tunable bus to mediate long-range interactions between spatially separated nuclei. We analyze and numerically investigate the feasibility and performance of this coupling scheme for various high-spin nuclei. The results show an effective coupling strength of 100 kHz for antimony spins separated by over 20 nm, enabling fast and high-fidelity iSWAP gate operations. Moreover, the scheme offers greater flexibility and robustness against decoherence effects compared with nuclear-spin coupling approaches based on electron geometric-phase gates. Compatible with existing donor-based quantum computing architectures in silicon, this work provides a viable approach for scaling up nuclear-spin qudit processors and may support future applications in quantum computation, sensing, and error correction.
