We investigate the observability of macroscopic entanglement, considering realistic factors such as decoherence, particle losses, and measurements of limited precision (coarse-grained collective measurements). This provides an operational route to detecting macroscopic entanglement through robust quantum correlations between collective (additive) degrees of freedom in realistic scenarios. We also propose a stronger operational form of macroscopic entanglement that exhibits quantum signatures even between randomly selected portions of the many-particle system. To detect such forms of macroscopic entanglement, we reformulate and adapt the Duan–Simon criterion to macroscopic systems and collective observables. Through simple examples, we demonstrate that these robust entanglement forms arise in elementary classes of quantum states and can be detected by experimentally friendly witnesses.
