Exceptional points (EPs) are a hallmark of non-Hermitian physics, giving rise to extreme sensitivity and enhanced dynamic response. Such unique spectral singularities have been extensively studied in classical photonics, both in theoretical and experimental level, where the relevant observables are evident. That is not necessarily the case in the quantum regime, where this kind of behavior around EPs, to a large extent, remains elusive. In fact, the interplay between dissipation and quantum fluctuations, makes the complete Lindbladian evolution quite different from effective non-Hermitian Hamiltonian descriptions. In this context, we investigate the signatures of the Liouvillian EPs on spectral and dynamic response by considering properly normalized long time averages and imbalances. Even though our approach is generic, we focus on two paradigmatic models—a lossy Bose–Hubbard lattice and a dissipative two-spin system, where we investigate the role of quantum jumps, and interactions on the Liouvillian spectrum, in terms of complex and structured pseudospectra. Our results demonstrate how non-Hermitian phenomena emerge in realistic quantum lattices, providing a bridge between classical EP physics and experimentally accessible open quantum systems.
