Abstract

We propose a general and practical strategy for designing membrane van der Waals (vdW) metasurfaces composed of two distinct hole arrays and supporting a pair of high-order multipole modes at the pump wavelength and spontaneous parametric down-conversion wavelength at once. The resonance excitation of nonradiating components of electric octupole at the pump wavelength allows one to directly concentrate near-field energy within the nonlinear 3R-MoS2 metasurface. Tuning of the second membrane metasurface resonance for concentration of near field around the holes entails the enhancement of vacuum fluctuations and spontaneous emission of photons from them. This dual-resonance architecture initiates the formation of nonclassical correlations and violation of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality on reduced times relative to both an unpatterned flake and an off-resonant membrane configuration. The presented approach predicts a biphoton generation rate of 61 Hz/mW and a frequency bandwidth of 11.5 THz, while retaining the transferability and materials flexibility of the vdW membrane platform and offering a scalable pathway toward faster quantum encryption and computing technologies.
