Abstract

We performed scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS) measurements to examine the Kondo interaction in the monolayer FeTe grown on SrTiO3(001)−(13×13). Topographic images showed that the C4 symmetry of the FeTe lattice is broken due to the substrate surface. Furthermore, the electron doping variation from the substrate surface not only leads to two types of Fano-line dI/dV spectra representing the Kondo resonance, but also suppresses the hybridization gap observed in bulk FeTe. This finding demonstrates the importance of considering the reduced dimensionality and the substrate surface effect in discussing the complex ground state of the iron chalcogenides.
