Abstract

The production of two isolated photons at the Large Hadron Collider has applications in Higgs-boson phenomenology and in new-physics searches. In fact, measurements would provide more insight if a percent-level theoretical prediction were available. We account for next-to-next-to-next-to-leading-order strong-interaction effects in the cross section for the first time. This is not only necessary to demonstrate the convergence of perturbation theory, but also results in a reduction of the theoretical uncertainty by a factor of 3 down to 3%. With this, we pave the way to improved analyses.

  108. Approximate N3LO PDF sets have become available recently. Given the timescale of the present computation, and to compare to Ref. [12] we still use the NNPDF3.0 PDF set. As the main focus of this Letter is perturbative convergence and the technical challenges, we believe predictions based on recent PDFs will not change the message of our work.

  113. Note that in Ref. [114], the MHV 6-gluon amplitude has been computed in terms of momentum-twistor variables using finite-field reconstruction. We find, however, that the expressions of more complicated helicity configurations of our desired amplitude are too complicated when expressed through momentum-twistor variables, making a reconstruction unfeasible.
