Many important charge-exchange weak reactions (e.g. beta decays, double beta decays, neutrino-nucleus reactions and neutrino-nucleon reactions) are closely related to the spin- and isospin-dependent nuclear force. However, few of these reactions can be precisely measured (or even observed) by current terrestrial experiments. The Gamow-Teller resonance in finite nuclei is one of the few experimental evidences that reveals the features of the spin- and isospin-dependent force. In Lin et al. [1], we obtain the probability distribution of the Landau-Migdal parameter [(that is a parameter characterizing the main part of the spin-isospin force)] from measurements of the Gamow-Teller resonance by using Bayesian inference. In this follow-up work, the correlations emerging from our Bayesian analysis are thoroughly studied in a quantitative manner. Analysis of the Bayesian posterior gives two standard Skyrme parameterizations (the nuSky* model) that successfully reproduce, in a unified manner, ground-state observables of finite nuclei, the salient features of the GTR, and the bulk properties of neutron-star matter. Since the collective excitations in finite nuclei and those in neutron-star matter are related, we constrain the axial-current, charged-current neutrino–nucleon reaction rates in hot and dense compact-star matter using the Skyrme interactions sampled from the Bayesian posterior, as the first astrophysical application of this Bayesian study. The GTR-informed calculations efficiently diminish the spread in the values of the neutrino opacity; nevertheless, significant uncertainties on this quantity remain, due to the not-so-well-constrained symmetry energy at sub-saturation density. Fixing this quantity on top of a well constrained spin-isospin interaction would pave the way towards a systematic determination of neutrino-dense matter interactions in the future.
