Abstract
In this paper we focus on the evolution of triaxiality from -soft toward rigid triaxial shapes in Mo and Ru chains above . Spectral criteria for the second-order phase transition are suggested and examined. Both chains are investigated within the phenomenological algebraic collective model and in the framework of microscopic Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations with six representative parametrizations of the effective Skyrme interaction. The algebraic collective model yields energy surfaces that are softer towards prolate shapes, whereas the Skyrme results are all softer towards oblate shapes.
