Abstract
The intranuclear cascade model is improved to explain the spectra of light charged particles from the reaction of 230-MeV/u α particles on an aluminum target. This model features α inelastic scattering and the processes of knockout and indirect pickup in addition to projectile fragmentation. To reproduce the different spectral shapes of various particles, three important assumptions are introduced: (i) the breakup channel ratios have impact-parameter dependence; (ii) there is repulsion between the cluster and the target nucleus; and (iii) the particles undergo forward-biased deflection when escaping the target. Consequently, the calculations reproduce all the spectra of α, , triton, deuteron, and proton with high accuracy. The roles of projectile fragmentation and target fragmentation, knockout, and indirect pickup are discussed.
