    Abstract

The proton evaporation spectrum has been measured in an exclusive experiment for Co60, which is populated in the Fe57(Li7,α) reaction and decays into Fe59+p. A statistical-model analysis of the coincident proton spectra enabled the extraction of the excitation-energy-dependent nuclear level density (NLD) of Fe59. The extracted NLD shows good consistency with available microscopic predictions and the RIPL-3 evaluated data, thereby providing an important experimental benchmark for this short-lived nucleus. It was further used to estimate the Maxwellian-averaged neutron-capture cross section relevant for astrophysical reaction rates, particularly for the Fe58 nucleus.
