Stephen Forrest Selected as Lead Editor of Physical Review Applied

The American Physical Society (APS) has appointed University of Michigan Professor of Physics Stephen Forrest as the lead editor of Physical Review Applied (PRApplied). Dr. Forrest has been the interim lead editor since May 2017.

“I am delighted to welcome Steve as the new lead editor of Physical Review Applied,” said Pierre Meystre, APS editor in chief. “His superb credentials as a world-class researcher, teacher, and administrator, along with his broad grasp of the applied physics community ideally position him to further strengthen the journal and increase its breadth and impact in this fast-moving area of physics.”

“I am very excited to have been appointed PRApplied’s lead editor,” said Stephen Forrest. “Working with its excellent staff and advisory board, I look forward to helping make this the ‘go to’ journal for the applied physics community. By leveraging the Physical Review journals’ reputation of publishing exceptionally high-quality research, I look forward to bringing this tradition to the broad range of disciplines that defines applied physics.

Forrest received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Michigan and subsequently joined Bell Labs. He also held positions at the University of Southern California and Princeton University. Dr. Forrest is a Fellow of APS, IEEE, and OSA and a member of the National Academy of Inventors, the National Academy of Engineering, and the National Academy of Sciences. In addition, he is co-founder or founding participant in several companies, including Sensors Unlimited, Epitaxx, Inc., NanoFlex Power Corp., Universal Display Corp. (NASDAQ: PANL), and ASIP, Inc., and he is on the Board of Governors of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and the Board of Directors of Applied Materials.

“As one of our fastest growing journals, PRApplied offers a unique position within the Physical Review family to continue APS’s engagement with the engineering and physics communities,” said Matthew Salter, APS publisher. “I am delighted to have Steve as PRApplied’s lead editor and look forward to continuing the momentum of this journal.”
