Calculated potential contours for a model of a heterostructure with a triple-quantum-dot Coulomb blockade rectifier pattern. Tunnel junctions connect the quantum dots to each other and to the source & drain; tunneling is forbidden between dots 2 & 3, but they can interact capacitively. The current in this model is strongly blocked in the forward-bias direction by electron trapping in dot 3.
