Physical Review Letters (PRL) seeks a part-time Associate Editor with international standing in condensed matter physics and related areas of materials science to join its editorial team.
Our ideal candidate has strong research connections in East Asia and the willingness and ability to represent PRL at conferences in these regions, particularly China.
PRL is the world’s leading Letters journal in physics, covering all areas of the field. The journal relies on a combination of professional staff and part-time academic editors. Associate Editors manage the peer-review process for assigned manuscripts, including deciding whether to send submissions for external review, selecting referees, and making editorial decisions. They are also expected to strengthen ties with the research community and enhance the journal’s visibility.
Submissions are received year-round, and editors are expected to handle assignments regularly. Extended absences can usually be accommodated with advance notice. Workload varies by subject area but is typically no more than about 20 hours per month. Associate Editors are appointed as consultants and receive a stipend based on expected manuscript volume. Editors are expected to maintain their primary professional position while serving PRL.
