Abstract
I identify the template organizing the chaotic dynamics of a bounding ball system. I further show how to estimate the topological parameter values of the system directly from a time series—a process I call ‘‘topological time series analysis.’’ Two distinct methods to determine the topological parameters are illustrated and compared—the ‘‘pruning front’’ procedure and a ‘‘braid analysis.’’ Both procedures lead to compatible results.
