Determination of Au193 and Hg193 atomic masses by the Au197(α,8He)193Au reaction

Abstract

The atomic mass excess of Au193 was determined to be -33.419±0.011 MeV for the first time from the measured Q value of -26.919±0.009 MeV for the Au197(α,8He)193Au reaction. The atomic mass excess of Hg193 was also determined to be -31.080±0.032 MeV by using the known Q value of Hg193 beta decay to Au193. These results were compared with some predicted values.
