Abstract

A proof-of-concept permanent magnet spiral inflector was constructed and used to successfully inject and accelerate protons in the Solid Pole Cyclotron 2 at iThemba LABS. This article describes the design, construction, and testing of the inflector and discusses its application to other cyclotrons.
