Abstract

Fano-type resonances in neutral and singly ionized gold in the extreme ultraviolet spectral region have been investigated using both experimental and theoretical approaches. Absorption spectra were obtained using the dual laser plasma technique, observing variations in ion populations in the absorbing Au plasma at delays between 300 and 500 ns after formation. The theoretical work used atomic structure calculations, performed for Au i and Au ii using the cowan suite of codes, to identify the main features in the experimental spectrum between 79 and 83 eV. Synthetic spectra were produced using Boltzmann weighting and a collisional radiative model, which allowed for direct comparison with the experiment. The agreement between experiment and calculation was generally very good. Experimental features attributed to Au ii that have not previously been identified have been assigned.
