    Abstract

It is shown that in using the two-frequency technique of Prior et al. for investigation of the hyperfine structure of atoms with integral J, any resonance observed may arise from a two-quantum transition (να+νβ=ΔEh;να≠νβ) rather than from two successive single-quantum jumps. Although this feature requires that care be used in interpreting the observed resonance frequencies, it appears to extend the usefulness of the technique as a spectroscopic tool.
