Abstract
The dynamics of electrically pumped nanolaser arrays is analyzed within the framework of non-Hermitian photonics. By employing a small-signal analysis, general features of the dynamics including parity-time symmetry analogous behavior and exceptional points are extracted. Qualitative features of the device dynamics are revealed in the vicinity of exceptional points. It is shown that nanolasers, characterized by Purcell-enhanced spontaneous emission, manifest periodic dynamics while analogous lasers with no Purcell enhancement exhibit chaotic dynamics. The opportunity for utilizing such laser arrays for exploring the ramifications of non-Hermitian photonics is noted.
