Abstract
We present a laser architecture generating dissipative optical solitons whose temporal profile consists of a central body flanked by intense functional sidelobes. The soliton phase profile features a phase difference of the order of between the central body and the first-order sidelobes. The sprawling structure of this soliton with an alternating phase profile provides extended interaction capabilities, entailing the formation of optical soliton molecules with predetermined internal separations. We show numerically and experimentally that these “tentacle” soliton structures are generated from a fiber laser cavity combining dispersion management with adjustable spectral filtering.
