Abstract
We derive a systematic technique that achieves optimal robust quantum control that is simultaneously robust against both detuning and pulse inhomogeneities by inverse optimization. The method, referred to as bi-RIO, is applied to produce birobust population transfer and notable quantum gates that are optimal with respect to the energy of the pulses, a major cost issue for quantum technologies. We show that, for a given performance in terms of fidelity and robustness, the bi-RIO pulses are much less energetic and faster than the composite pulses.
