Physics Next: From Quantum Fields to Condensed Matter

August 24-26, 2017

Organizers

John McGreevy, University of California at San Diego
Subir Sachdev, Herchel Smith Professor of Physics, Harvard University

Meeting Coordinators

Abhishek Agarwal, Associate Editor, Physical Review Letters
Samindranath Mitra, Editor, Physical Review Letters

Location

Hyatt Place Long Island hotel, Long Island, NY

Condensed matter subjects such as topological phases, anomalous transport, many-body localization, quantum Hall states, and semimetals are increasingly being studied with field and string theory techniques. These developments, in turn, are driving new themes of research into quantum field and string theories. Current and imminent experiments make this confluence of ideas especially compelling.

This workshop aims to bring together early, mid-career, and senior physicists to identify relevant theoretical and experimental issues to develop further. In addition, editors from the Physical Review journals will participate to assess editorial needs and challenges in these research directions.

Meeting Activities

  • Invited talks and overview presentations
  • Informal discussions
  • Meet the APS Editors Reception
