Enhanced E1 Transition Rates and Octupole Deformation in Ac225

Abstract

The levels of Ac225 are reliably assigned by detailed measurements of the radiations associated with the α decay of Pa229 and the β decay of Ra225. Extremely large enhancements of E1 transition rates are found in Ac225. The adequacy of a single-particle description of strong octupole correlations is examined.
